Circle of William Jones of Bath (act.c.1726-1747) - Portrait of a man holding a basket of fruit, oil on canvas, unsigned, 91 x 75 cm, frame dimensions: 91 x 108 cm, frame bearing John Lomax, Son & Co art dealers, Manchester label verso. The Victoria Art Gallery, Bath have the signed original portrait by William Jones of this composition. The gallery state that the sitter is said to have worked as a servant at the Pump Room, Bath. His clothing is a fanciful costume that does not match the clothing late 18th century servants were known to have worn.
Evidence of restoration and relining. Scratches and restored punctures to the canvas. Loss to paint around the edges of the canvas.
