£220
A large antique textile panel of cisele velvet, probably 19th century Italian depicting classical colourful floral urns with heraldic motifs. Edged with braid and lined with cotton. 2.3x1.8m. AF-condition report available
Widespread age related damage to fibres resulting in shattering (particularly the warp coloured threads) with numerous short horizontal splits across the panel and widespread loss of velvet pile in some areas. Panel is composed of 3 co-joined loom widths. Along the top edge there are sections where the main fabric body has torn away from the edging (likely to have been the result of the pull of the fabric weight when hung). The wooden bead is that held in the top edge has been broken into 6 sections and could easily be removed. Colour vibrancy varies across the panel according to how much of the original coloured pile remains.
