19th Century Hungarian School, with inscribed attribution to Mihály Munkácsy (Hungarian, 1844-1900) - Portrait of Anna Frohner, oil on canvas, indistinctly signed and dated '1868'? lower right, with inscription 'Munkácsy Mihály (Dusseldorf)' verso to stretcher top left and below in Hungarian: 'Méltóságos Frohner Anna úrnő' which reads: 'Honourable Frohner Anna mistress' as well as another indistinct pencil inscription, there is a strong resemblance to Hungarian aristocratic portraits circa 1860s and the work of Barabás Miklós (1810-1898) as well as other portrait painters of this period, 43.5 x 37 cm, unframed. Provenance: from a private collection.

General surface wear to painting. Craquelure to surface of paint particularly to the skin tones - face and hands. Signs of resotration with at least five areas of loss to paint and retouching in dark blue pigment. One further area of loss to pigment with no restoration to the right of the head. Wear, loss of paint and retouching around the edges of the canvas.
